Overview

The share button lets you send a direct link to any tracked object — vessel, port, lighthouse, marina, or anchorage — to anyone via your preferred app. The recipient can open the link on marinetraffic.com to view the same information page you're looking at.

How to use it

1. Open an info page

Tap any vessel, port, lighthouse, marina, or anchorage on the map to open its information panel.

2. Tap the share button

In the action bar at the top of the panel, tap the share icon (↗). The iOS share sheet will appear, showing a preview of the marinetraffic.com link.

3. Choose how to share

Select your preferred method:

  • AirDrop — share directly to a nearby Apple device

  • Messages — send as an iMessage or SMS

  • Mail — attach the link to an email

  • WhatsApp — send to an individual or group chat

  • Copy — copy the link to your clipboard to paste anywhere

  • Any other app shown in your share sheet

The recipient will receive a link that opens the full info page for that vessel or location on MarineTraffic.

What can be shared

Object type

What the link shows

Vessel

Port

Lighthouse

Location and navigation details

Marina

Location, facilities, and contact information

Anchorage

Location and details

Notes

  • The shared link opens on marinetraffic.com — recipients do not need the app installed to view it.

  • Vessel data shown via the link reflects live information at the time of opening, not the moment you shared it.

  • No account or login is required for recipients to view the linked page.

Troubleshooting

  • I don't see the share button
Make sure you have tapped on a vessel, port, or location to open its full info panel. The share button appears in the action bar alongside "Add to fleet", "Track", and "Voyage planner".

  • The link isn't opening correctly for the recipient
Ask them to open the link in a browser. Some messaging apps may preview the link without fully loading the page.

If the recipient has the MarineTraffic app installed, the link should open the app. Although it is not obligatory, we recommend using the mobile app for a better experience.
