The term Berth Calls describes events that take place in a berth within a port, such as docking and undocking of vessels in them. There are various areas within the port, where vessels can dock. A number of berths handling similar types of cargo (i.e. containers, coal etc.) or common operator, constitutes a terminal, and basically, a number of terminals constitute a port. Let's take a closer look.

A port is defined as an area on both land and water, whether on the sea or river, that provides facilities for shipping vessels to load and unload their cargo.

A terminal is a subdivision of a port and it refers to a part dedicated to a certain type of activity, such as containers or bulks. Alternatively, it could be a port area managed by a specific terminal operator. And basically, a terminal is a facility that may have several berths.

A berth is a designated location in a port or harbour used for mooring vessels when they are not at open sea. Berths provide a vertical front which allows safe and secure mooring that can then facilitate the unloading or loading of cargo or people from vessels.

Now, you are able to drill down to more specific information in the biggest ports in the world. Using the Explore tool you can search for a specific vessel or port, and find out the latest berth calls with timestamps and even their terminal, when available.

To search for Berth Calls simply hover over the left sidebar menu and select the Ports option. This will take you straight to the Ports section, where you can use the top bar to quickly locate the Berth Calls option.

More Filters

If you are looking for more specific data, our vast selection of filters can help you with that. Just click on the Add Filter button and a drop-down menu will appear. The first options are the most popular ones. Each filter added will appear in a box next to the Add Filter button. You can remove the filter any time by clicking on the X button next to it.

After selecting your filters, the results will appear below. By default, a number of the most popular results will appear. It is easier than ever to select what you want to see. You can hold and drag any of the result columns to re-position and sort them how you want.

Extra details

Moreover, you can click on the Columns button on the right to add or remove columns from your view. You can also choose your preferred Time Zone via the Time Display button.

More actions

Now, to the far right of every result, you will notice a button with 3 vertical lines. Clicking on that will provide you with more actions for every result. For the Vessel Database, you have a number of interesting actions, such as to create a notification for the vessel, show vessel on Map or even see the vessels/port details.

​Kindly note that up to 500 records can be provided per search.

Export Data

Last but not least you can export the data you have searched for with a click of a button. As soon as you get your results from your specific search, you can export all of them by clicking on the Export All Data button on the top right-hand side. A drop-down menu will appear, giving you information about the process you are about to complete.
Please note that while 500 records can be viewed per search, the Export All Data button will export all of the available records.

Alternatively, you can now select some of them, by clicking on the adjacent button of each result, on the left side. The selected will appear green and a new button will appear on the button that reads Export Data. Click on it to export the selected.
