Where to find it
The Data received on timestamp is available in two places within the Vessel details page.
Option 1 — Current position tab
From the map, tap on any vessel to open its details page
Tap the Current position tab
The Data received on field shows the date and time of the last AIS update received
Option 2 — Current Voyage tab
From the map, tap on any vessel to open its details page
Tap the Current Voyage tab
Look below Speed, Course and Draught section
The Last update xx minutes ago timestamp is displayed there
What does this value mean?
The Data received on/last update timestamp shows the exact date and time the vessel's last AIS position signal was received by the MarineTraffic network. It is displayed in your local UTC offset, so the time adjusts based on your device's timezone settings.
This allows you to quickly assess how current the vessel's position is before relying on it for any decision.
Why does update frequency vary?
AIS transmission frequency is not constant — it depends on the vessel's speed and navigation status
Vessels moving at higher speeds transmit more frequently. A vessel that has not updated its position for a long time may have switched off its AIS transponder, be out of coverage range, or be experiencing a technical issue.
