What’s changed
We’ve expanded Risk & Compliance notifications in MarineTraffic and Kpler Terminal to cover a broader range of sanction-related, operational, and behavioural risk events. These notifications help users stay informed when monitored vessels are involved in activity that may require closer review.
You can now receive notifications for:
Cargo sanction risk change
Trade sanction risk change
High-risk port calls
High-risk STS transfers
Dark STS transfers
High-risk AIS gaps
AIS spoofing
For sanction-related notifications:
Cargo sanction risk change helps identify when a vessel is carrying sanctioned cargo, including cargoes such as oil from Iran or Syria, with coverage across grades including crude oil/condensate, CPP, DPP, Chem/Bio, LNG, NGL, and dry cargo.
Trade sanction risk change highlights trades restricted by sanctioned programs, with detection covering exports from Iran, Syria, Russia, and Venezuela and mapping to EU, US, UK, and G7 sanctions frameworks.
Why this matters
Risk and compliance teams rely on timely visibility into vessel activity to support monitoring and investigation workflows. Expanding notifications across both sanction-related and behavioural risk events helps users identify issues earlier, respond more quickly to potential compliance concerns, reduce manual vessel monitoring, and support ongoing investigations.
What you might notice
If you are monitoring vessels of interest, you may now receive additional notifications when one of these event types is detected. Notifications can include the vessel involved, the type of event, and relevant timing or contextual information. The alerts are available through web and email channels.
How do I set them up?
To create a new Risk & Compliance notification:
Begin by opening up your vessel tab or clicking through to the Compliance Workspace
Select the vessel for notification:
Navigate to the Notifications tab
Choose from one of the new risk notification options:
And finally “Create Notification” to start getting updated risk notifications:
Do I need to do anything?
No action is required to access the feature if you are an eligible user. To start receiving alerts, you simply need to create a notification for the vessels or event types you want to monitor. These notifications are available automatically for eligible users and will trigger when relevant events are detected for vessels you are monitoring
