In order to start viewing the Past Track, you simply need to go to a vessel record or click on a vessel on the Live Map and click on Past Track.

Below you can find an example for the vessel MSC Maersk.

Logged-out users can see Past Track history for up to one day in the past, while logged-in users for up to three days in the past. More history will become available upon purchasing the Professional or Enterprise plan.

All users have access to a vessel’s past track, which is indicated via a coloured track based on the speed of the vessel along the route.

The colour of the speed is based on the following gradient.

It is also easy to identify areas with coverage gaps of over 3 hours, as they are indicated with a dashed line instead of a continuous one.

Moreover, all logged-in users (including users of our free Basic plan) also see the waypoints along the vessel track with the same colour and an arrow based on the course (or heading if the speed is below 2 knots) of the vessel at each respective position.

If you hover over each position, you will be able to see the speed, course, timestamp and AIS Source of each waypoint.

NOTE: advanced details such as speed, course, timestamp and AIS Source of each waypoint are available through the subscription to Professional or Enterprise plan.

Weather visualisation

Subscribers to our Professional, Professional Plus or Enterprise plans are also able to see another colour contour encompassing the track line. This contour displays the weather conditions (wind speed) at the respective timestamp of each position, according to the below gradient.

Across the inner side, there are corresponding wind barbs indicating the speed, direction, and strength of the wind. The corresponding barbs are based on the speed of the above gradient. You may also find more information about them here.

Weather Settings

By clicking on the cog icon, you will be able to set the preferences of the Weather Bar according to your liking. You may choose to display the bar or hide it and you may also select exactly what information you wish for there to be shown.

Depending on what you select from the options listed below, the weather contour will provide you with info on either the wind speed (kn), wave height (m), swell height (m) or current speed (kn)

Vessel Events visualisation

If you are subscribed to our Professional, Professional Plus or Enterprise plan you can also see all identified events along the vessel past-track all.

These events are indicated with an ‘i’ and distinguished in importance by colour as follows.

Events_icon_colours.png
  • Green is for low importance informational events, such as crossed strait, timezone changed etc

  • Orange is for medium importance events, such as port/berth calls, vessel back in range etc

  • Red is for high importance events, such as destination/ETA updates, sailing in high winds, user events etc.

Subscribers of either service will also notice that they are now able to follow the vessel as the Live Map refreshes when Past Track remains open so that both the vessel position and the Past Track will be up-to-date on our Live Map.

Tip: For better visualization of the Past Track, you may consider enabling our Dark Map. You can find more information and instructions on the following Article: Live Map Types
