In this article, you will learn how you can check the past positions of a specific vessel of your choice and explore its position history.

Vessel Position History can be viewed in our Explore Tool and there are several ways how to be redirected there from:

Vessel's Details Page

In case you have already opened Vessel's Details Page, you can simply click on the Position History tab in the Voyage Information section.

Vessel's Info Window

Alternatively while being on the Live Map you can click on the vessel icon to open her Info Window.

One more way is by moving to the Explore tool.

Click the button "Vessels" that you will see on the toolbar located on the left side. As soon as you click on it you will be redirected to the Explore tool, Vessels Database Section.

Please select the Position History option on the sidebar.

Unlike other options in the Explore tool, you are required to add a vessel's name, MMSI or IMO number to be able to get the information you need.

After you do so all results about the specific vessels will appear in rows and each row is a separate record of a past position of the subject vessel as registered in the MarineTraffic database.

Note I: You should be able to see all vessel's positions, including satellite positions if you have purchased a SAT online service, such as the SAT Flex service or the Enterprise Plan.

If you are looking for a specific vessel, you can use the quick search bar by typing the name, the MMSI or the IMO number.

More Filters

If you are looking for more specific data, our vast selection of filters can help you with that. Just click on the Add Filter button and a drop-down menu will appear.
The first options are the most popular ones.
Each filter added will appear in a box next to the Add Filter button. You can remove the filter any time by clicking on the X button next to it.

Note II: If you purchased our Plans or any relevant Add-on a number of really interesting filters will be unlocked in this section.

After selecting your filters, the results will appear below.

Extra details

Moreover, you can click on the Cogwheel icon on the right to add or remove columns from your view and choose your preferred Time Zone.

More actions

Now, to the far right of every result, you will notice a button with 3 vertical dots. Clicking on that you will be able to see that specific position on the LiveMap.

There are some important information and actions at the bottom of the page which:

  • inform you about the total number of records found that match your search criteria

  • enable you to navigate through search results pages by entering a page number or selecting the next or previous one

  • let you decide on the desired amount of search results per page (20/50)

Export Data

Last but not least you can export the data you have searched for with a click of a button. As soon as you get your results from your specific search, you can export all of them by clicking on the Export button on the right-hand side, above the results. A drop-down menu will appear, giving you information about the process you are about to complete.

Alternatively, you can now select some rows of data, by clicking on the adjacent button of each result, on the left side. The selected will appear green and a new button will appear on the button that reads Export Data. Click on it to export the selected.
