In this article, you can learn about how to update your vessel's record on the MarineTraffic website if your vessel has a new name, new flag, or other updated information.
MarineTraffic relies on the AIS protocol to receive and provide vessel-related information and positions to our users.
This means that in order to change any vessel's value, vessel owners or crew will need to update the vessel's transponder settings with the new details.
Note: please check here what kind of information is AIS transmitted.
Afterward, since we need to receive both static signals and positions from the vessel, the transponder will need to be kept active for a couple of days, so as for the unit to be transmitting the signals. As soon as our antennas collect the necessary amount of signals and positions, the new detail will be automatically updated in our database.
Note: The vessel will need to be located in an area within our Terrestrial AIS coverage.
