Below is a quick overview of the serial communication standards:

RS-422 - TX-/TX+/GND (GND does not have to be used).

RS-485 - A/B/C (C = GND, and it does not have to be used).

Only RS-485 and RS-422 are used for NMEA distribution.

It is OK to receive NMEA from RS-485 using an RS-422 listener.

RS-232 - This standard IS NOT USED for NMEA distribution
