Overview
When offline mode is enabled, Inbox downloads a local copy of your recent emails and stores them on your device. You can then work as normal composing an email and all changes are queued and sent the moment you reconnect.
Enabling offline mode
To turn on offline mode:
ℹ️ Offline mode is available on the mobile app. Make sure you enable it while you still have a connection so your emails are downloaded before you go offline.
Configuring your offline settings
You have full control over what gets stored on your device.
Days of email to sync
Choose how far back Inbox should download — up to 30 days of email history. Go to Settings > Offline mode > Days of email to sync.
Mailboxes to sync
Select which shared mailboxes are included in your offline copy. Go to Settings > Offline mode > Mailboxes to sync and toggle on the ones you need. Only mailboxes relevant to your active work need to be selected, which keeps storage usage low.
Download attachments
By default, attachments are not downloaded offline to save device storage. If you need to access attached documents without a connection, go to Settings > Offline mode and toggle Download attachments on before syncing.
Working offline
Once offline mode is active and your emails are synced, you can:
Read all emails downloaded within your selected date range
Reply, forward, or compose new emails
All actions you take while offline are queued automatically. There is nothing extra you need to do.
Sending emails when you reconnect
When your internet connection is restored, any emails you sent while offline are delivered automatically, no action needed. Inbox detects the connection and dispatches your queued outbox in the background.
Sending a draft after reconnecting
If you saved an email as a draft while offline, it will remain in your drafts folder when you reconnect. Open the draft, review it, and tap Send when you are ready. Nothing is sent on your behalf without you explicitly pressing Send.
Managing storage
Offline data is stored locally on your device. To view how much space is being used:
Go to Settings > Offline mode
See the Data usage figure at the bottom of the screen
Tap View and clean up to open the Data management screen
From the Data management screen you can delete stored emails or attachments separately:
First turn off offline mode to stop syncing
Email data usage: deletes all locally stored emails and metadata
Attachment data usage: deletes downloaded files and images only
ℹ️ Deleting your offline data does not affect your emails in Inbox, it only removes the local copy from your device. You can re-sync at any time to download a fresh copy, which typically takes a couple of minutes.
Troubleshooting
My emails are not syncing
Make sure offline mode is toggled on in Settings > Offline mode
Tap Sync manually to trigger a fresh download
Check that the mailboxes you need are selected under Mailboxes to sync
My sent emails did not go out
Check your outbox, emails you sent while offline will show there until the connection is restored
If your email is still in drafts, it was saved but not sent, open the draft and tap Send manually once you are online
I am running low on device storage
Go to Settings > Offline mode > View and clean up
Delete email data or attachments to free space
Reduce the number of days synced or deselect mailboxes you do not need offline
Frequently asked questions
Does offline mode work on desktop?
Offline mode is available on the MarineTraffic Inbox mobile app only.
Will my teammates see my replies immediately?
No. Replies composed offline are queued and only sent, and therefore visible to your team, once your connection is restored.
How long does re-syncing take after I delete my offline data?
Re-syncing typically takes a couple of minutes depending on your connection speed and the number of emails in your selected date range.
Can I choose different sync settings for different mailboxes?
The days of email to sync and attachment download settings apply globally. You can, however, choose which mailboxes are included in your offline copy via Settings > Offline mode > Mailboxes to sync.
