How to see a vessel's Navigation Status ?

The Navigation Status tells you what a vessel is currently doing — whether it is underway, anchored, moored, or in a special operational state. This information is transmitted directly by the vessel via AIS.

Where to find it

  1. From the map, tap on any vessel to open its details page

  2. Tap the Current position tab

  3. Scroll down to the Vessel position section

  4. The Navigation status is displayed there

Common navigation statuses

Status

What it means

Underway using engine

The vessel is actively moving under its own engine power

At anchor

The vessel has dropped anchor and is stationary

Moored

The vessel is docked at a port, berth or terminal

Not under command

The vessel is unable to manoeuvre due to an exceptional circumstance

Restricted in ability to manoeuvre

The vessel's ability to manoeuvre is limited by the nature of its work

Underway sailing

The vessel is moving under sail power only
