27 July 2026 — A new experience for MarineTraffic notifications

I
Written by Igor Loureiro

We have redesigned the MarineTraffic notifications experience to make it faster to create notification workflows and easier to manage them from one place.

The new interface introduces a simpler two-step setup process, clearer workflow titles, improved filtering and an experience that is more consistent with the rest of MarineTraffic.

Your existing notification workflows, settings and delivery channels will carry over automatically. You do not need to recreate your notifications or take any action before the update.

Manage all your notifications in one place

The redesigned My Notifications page gives you a clearer overview of your existing workflows.

For each notification, you can now see:

  • The notification title

  • The vessels, fleets, ports or other assets covered

  • The selected event types

  • Whether the notification is private or shared

  • The active delivery channels

  • The available management actions

You can also filter your workflows by channel, notification type or asset, making it easier to find and manage a specific notification.

From this page, you can pause, edit, share or delete individual notifications. You can also pause or delete all workflows when required.

The notification allowance shown at the top of the page displays your current usage and the date on which the allowance resets.

Create a notification in two steps

Notification setup has been reduced from four steps to two.

Step 1: Choose the assets and delivery channels

Start by entering a title for the notification and selecting the channels through which you want to receive it.

Available delivery channels may include:

  • Web

  • Email

  • Mobile

You can then select the vessels, fleets or locations that the notification should cover.

Adding a clear title makes it easier to distinguish between workflows covering similar assets or events.

When you create a notification from the map, Explore or an asset details page, the relevant vessel or port may already be selected for you.

Step 2: Select and configure events

In the second step, choose the notification types you want to receive.

Notification types are organised into categories such as:

  • Standard periodic reports

  • Port-related events

  • Area-related events

  • Vessel movement status updates

  • Vessel AIS data updates

You can search for a notification type or filter the list to display all, available or unavailable options.

Some notification types include additional configuration options. For example, ETA notifications can be configured to begin a specified number of hours before arrival and repeat at selected intervals.

Once the required events have been selected, the notification can be saved directly.

Existing notifications will carry over automatically

All existing notification workflows will appear in the redesigned interface.

This includes their existing:

  • Assets

  • Event types

  • Delivery channels

  • Status

  • Sharing settings

  • Event-specific configuration

You do not need to recreate or manually migrate your current notifications.

Where an existing workflow did not previously have a title, it may appear with an existing or automatically assigned value until it is renamed.

Changes to the Notifications Archive

As part of this update, the Notifications Archive has been retired.

Historical vessel activity remains available through Explore (Left pane toolbar on the Live Map -> Vessels -> Events), where you can review events and apply more detailed filters.

Where to find historical events

Most historical notification events are available under the Events tab in Explore.

Port-related events are available in the following locations:

Historical activity

Explore location

Arrival

Port Calls

Departure

Port Calls

Docked

Berth Calls

Undocked

Berth Calls

Other vessel events

Events

Explore also allows you to narrow results using filters such as:

  • Vessel

  • Fleet

  • Event type

  • Port

  • Location

  • Time period

For example, to review Vessel-to-Vessel Proximity events for vessels in a particular fleet, select the relevant event type under Events and then apply the appropriate fleet filter.

Sharing notifications

You can share a notification with another MarineTraffic user regardless of their plan. The recipient will be able to access the shared notification and view its configuration.

However, notification delivery is based on the recipient's own MarineTraffic plan and notification allowance. Sharing a notification does not transfer the notification allowance or entitlements of the user who created it.

For example, a user without an available notification allowance may be able to access the shared notification and see its settings, but will not receive the associated notifications.

What has changed

The redesigned notifications experience includes:

  • A consistent interface aligned with the rest of MarineTraffic

  • A two-step setup process instead of four steps

  • Titles for notification workflows

  • Simpler selection of vessels, fleets, locations and delivery channels

  • Searchable and categorised notification types

  • Direct notification creation from the map, Explore and asset details pages

  • Filtering of existing workflows by channel, type and asset

  • Clear visibility of workflow status and delivery channels

  • Direct controls to pause, edit, share or delete notifications

The purpose of your notification workflows remains the same: helping you stay informed about the vessel, port and maritime events relevant to your operations.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to recreate my notifications?

No. Existing notification workflows and their configurations will carry over automatically.

Will my notification delivery channels change?

No. Existing delivery channels will remain associated with each workflow unless you edit them.

Can I still review historical events?

Yes. Historical activity remains available through Explore across the Events, Port Calls and Berth Calls tabs.

Where can I find Arrival and Departure events?

Arrival and Departure activity is available under Port Calls.

Where can I find Docked and Undocked events?

Docked and Undocked activity is available under Berth Calls.

Can I create notifications from a vessel or port page?

Yes. Notifications can be created from the map, Explore or an asset details page. Where applicable, the relevant asset will already be selected.

Can I rename an existing notification?

Yes. Notification titles can be edited to make workflows easier to identify.

Can I share a notification with someone on a different MarineTraffic plan?

Yes. A notification can be shared with another MarineTraffic user regardless of their plan.

The recipient can access the shared notification and view its configuration, but whether they receive the resulting notifications depends on their own plan and available notification allowance. The notification creator's allowance is not shared with other users.
